Cockroaches live in a wide range of environments; and are widely rumoured to be nuclear-bomb proof. Pest species adapt well to their environments; but prefer the warm conditions inside housing. They are mainly nocturnal and run away when exposed to light; often at great speed. They are usually found around garbage or in the kitchen. Cockroach allergens have often been shown to contribute to asthma and itching.
They can live for over three months without food and a month without water.
