Aphids are a common summer garden pest – also known as plant lice, they feed on the plant sap. Having ruptured the phloem vessels of the plant, the sap (which is stored under high pressure) is forced into their food canal. Whilst feeding the aphids often transmit plant viruses to the plants, thus killing plants and damaging flower beds, greenhouse plants and crops.
